The Five Critical Disciplines evolved to better serve clients within Nevada Business Services (NBSI), a state Workforce Investment Board agency, funded by the US Department of Labor (DOL).  Executive Director Mr. Bill Murphy requested my service to help him strengthen the agency and its extensive services to youth and adult clients in Las Vegas.  Upon accepting the position as Youth Program Director, I immediately identified numerous direct human service deficiencies.  NBSI had 768 youth registered for services, with approximately forty youth clients actively receiving services.   There were numerous critical elements missing in the extensive tracking and reporting aspects of the mandates of DOL.

It is not enough to merely deliver services to agency youth, and adult clients, professionals should hold a broad range of professional disciplines that instill self-driven investments from clients, committed to completing their agreement to enhance their vocational and academic development, leading to greater opportunities for self-sufficiency.  The first session graduated 25 professionals, and since that moment, professionals from around the country have traveled to Las Vegas for training on the Five Critical Disciplines.
